Presidential elections kick off in Seychelles

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The state news agency in Seychelles says citizens of the Indian Ocean archipelago have started voting in presidential elections.

Seychelles News Agency said nearly 71,000 eligible Seychellois voters are expected to participate in the three-day election that started Thursday.

President James Michel, the leader of Parti Lepep, is vying for his third & last term at the helm of the Indian Ocean island nation's government.

p>Michel is facing six candidates, including Patrick Pillay a former high-ranking figure within the Parti Lepep who formed his party Seychellois Alliance in May.
