Peru beats Paraguay 2-0 to complete 3rd in Copa America

CONCEPCION, Chile (AP) — Andre Carrillo & Paolo Guerrero each scored second-half goals to assist Peru defeat Paraguay 2-0 in the third-place game at the Copa America on Friday.

Carrillo scored from just inside the area in the 48th minute & Guerrero sealed the victory from close range in the 89th, giving Peru its second-straight third-place complete in the South American competition. It had beaten Venezuela 4-1 in the consolation game in the 2011 tournament in Argentina.

Guerrero finished with four goals & is currently tied with Chile's Eduardo Vargas.

p>Peru was eliminated by Chile in this year's semifinals, while Paraguay lost to Argentina.

Paraguay was runner-up to Uruguay in 2011, losing the final 3-0.

Host Chile plays Lionel Messi's Argentina in the final of the South American tournament on Saturday.
