Pakistan 117-4 against Sri Lanka in 3rd test

PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka (AP) — Pakistan reached 117-4 when rain interrupted play for a second time & tea was taken 20 minutes early on day two of the third test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele on Saturday. Pakistan still trails by 161 runs after Sri Lanka's first innings 278.

Azhar Ali was unbeaten on 47 off 75 balls, with eight fours. Wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed was on 14.

Only 81 minutes were possible in the afternoon session in which 18 overs were bowled. Rain held up play for 19 minutes earlier in the afternoon.

p>Pakistan sent in Asad Shafiq ahead of captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who was nursing a groin strain. Shafiq was dismissed for 15 when swift bowler Dhammika Prasad had him leg before wicket.

Sarfraz moreover batted ahead of Misbah.

Pakistan lost three wickets before lunch. Prasad had Shan Masood leg before wicket while Nuwan Pradeep claimed a wicket off his third ball when he had Ahmed Shehzad caught behind by Dinesh Chandimal for 21 with five fours.

Younis Khan was dismissed in the last ball before lunch when he pushed one to short mid-wicket & hurried for a quick single, yet was run out by a direct hit from Kaushal Silva.

Sri Lanka resumed on 272-8 in the morning & were all out 20 minutes into the day's play.

Rahat Ali dismissed overnight batsman Tharindu Kaushal for 18 while leg-spinner Yasir Shah accounted for last man Nuwan Pradeep to claim a five-wicket haul. He became the second overseas cricketer after Shane Warne to claim three five-wicket hauls in a series in Sri Lanka.

The series is level at 1-1. Pakistan won the first test in Galle by 10 wickets & Sri Lanka bounced back by winning the second test in Colombo.
