The con says that Zuckerberg will donate 10% of his $45 billion (£29.6 billion) to 1,000 people & all they need to do to be in with a chance of being picked is to copy & share the post.

The post reads: “Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he is giving away $45 billion of Facebook stock. What you may not have heard is that he plans to five 10% of it away to people like YOU & ME!

“All you have to do is copy & paste this message into a post IMMEDIATELY. At midnight PST, Facebook will search through the day’s posts & award 1000 people with $4.5 million EACH as a way of saying thank you for making Facebook such a powerful vehicle for connection & philanthropy”.

The hoax encourages users to copy & share the fake information (Facebook)

To the disappointment of many, Facebook has confirmed that the post is a hoax.

The fake post was given an element of plausibility by the fact that Zuckerberg & his wife Priscilla Chan recently announced that they would be giving away 99% of their Facebook shares.

They made the announcement to celebrate the birth of their first child, & explained that they would be using the money to set up an initiative to support worthy causes.
