Chinese city says speeding to blame for deadly bus crash

BEIJING (AP) — Authorities in northeastern China say speeding was to blame for a bus accident last week that killed 10 South Korean tourists & the Chinese driver.

The bus fell off a highway bridge last Wednesday with 28 people aboard, most of them members of a delegation of South Korean government employees who on a tour of historical sites. The bus was going from the city of Ji'an to Dandong on the border with North Korea.

The Ji'an city government says the bus was on a mountain road with a speed limit of 40 kilometers (25 miles) per hour, yet that the 39-year-old driver was going at speeds up to twice as fast. The city says tests ruled out the possibility he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
