China to sign nuclear, aviation deals with Russia next week

BEIJING (Reuters) – China & Russia will sign nuclear energy, aviation & space deals next week during a visit to China by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, a senior Chinese diplomat said on Tuesday.

Medvedev will be in China to attend a summit of prime ministers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, a Chinese & Russia-lead security block, in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cheng Guoping gave no details on the agreements to be signed with Medvedev.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation groups China, Russia & the former Soviet republics of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan, while India, Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan & Mongolia are observers.

Medvedev will moreover visit Beijing, & the eastern city of Hangzhou where he will attend an Internet forum, Cheng added.

China & Russia have close business, security & diplomatic ties. They moreover tend to vote together as veto-holding permanent members of U.N. Security Council.

Last month, China agreed to buy 24 Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets from Russia in a deal worth more than $2 billion.
